(Greenville, SC) – NEXT has released its 2020 annual report outlining the economic impact of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, which remains vibrant and robust. Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the startups in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem demonstrated growth and agility. Each year, NEXT reports both the impact of its supported companies on economic variables such as jobs supported, average salaries, venture capital funding received, as well as the direct impact of NEXT’s services and resources.
NEXT provides a wide range of programs and services for high-growth, high-impact entrepreneurs located in the Upstate region of South Carolina. In 2020, NEXT supported over 120 high-growth, high-impact companies, and within these supported companies, reported 238 new full-time jobs were produced, bringing the total number of full-time jobs at supported companies to 1,528. The average salary of these full-time jobs was reported at $79,360, 1.6 times the Greenville county average for 2020.
Ken Brower, NEXT’s Interim CEO and a serial entrepreneur in his own right, speculates that “the data from 2020 is a testament to the nature of entrepreneurs: to face down challenges, to adapt to new conditions as they arise, and to use their skills to meet the needs of the community around them.”
NEXT was able to continue to provide programming for entrepreneurs and the community throughout all of 2020, including the MIT Venture Mentoring Service, Entrepreneur Exchange, and Venture Pitch conference.
Even as 2020 was an exceptional year, many NEXT-supported companies experienced growth- but they weren’t the only ones. In December, NEXT announced a move of its organizational charter under the Greenville Chamber’s foundation, as well as new significant investment from the City of Greenville. These changes, intended to expand current partnerships with multiple Upstate entities, are helping to drive NEXT’s goals to 3x their impact and companies served.
