NEXT is welcoming a new team member, Operations Coordinator Susan Durden!
Susan graduated from Erskine College cum laude with a BS in Business Administration and Graphic Design. While at Erskine, she served as the yearbook co-editor and events photographer for the Communications department, worked as a tutor in the campus writing center and, in her own words, spent time overcommitting to many on-campus groups including Student Government Association, Student Christian Association, the Philomelean literary society, and the Omicron Delta Kappa and Sigma Beta Delta honor societies. She is passionate about service and enjoys opportunities to learn new things.
Formerly from Columbia, SC, Susan enjoys photography and event planning. On weekends, she is interested in exploring all that Greenville has to offer, and would love recommendations on the best spots to hit as a Greenville newbie.
We had Susan answer some questions about herself to get to know her a little better- check it out!
Do you have any strange phobias?
I have a really strong aversion to reptiles- lizards, snakes, and I probably wouldn’t have been a fan of dinosaurs if they were still kicking. Although I did love the newest Jurassic World movie.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
- I’ve only visited 16 states in the U.S, so I’d love to see all 50.
- Complete a food/drinks tour of European countries, or at the very least, France, Spain, and Italy.
- Having photography of mine featured in a respected photography publication – a long shot, but a girl can dream!
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
To maintain a high-functioning level of energy with 0 caffeine intake- currently, taking away coffee is my kryptonite.
How many different states have you lived in?
I’ve been a South Carolina native since day 1! I grew up in Columbia, went to school at Erskine College, and now settled in the Upstate.
If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably Intro by the Xx- it’s an instrumental song that loops, and I sometimes put it on repeat for hours while I’m working as consistent background music.
What are three items you’d take with you to a deserted island?
- Water filtering straw
- An inflatable raft (with a motor!)
If you’re around the NEXT Innovation Center, stop by and say hello! Susan is excited to become a part of the NEXT community and looks forward to working in the entrepreneur ecosystem of Greenville!
