Working as a nurse in Greenville, Shannon Pierce saw a need to better monitor patients with chronic health conditions. Crayon drawings that she showed doctors and co-workers in 2004 eventually attracted investments, product developers and eventually business planners. The ideas grew into an innovative startup that has become the CareCam Health Systems approach to chronic care management.

Pierce, a Clemson graduate and registered nurse for 20 years, invented the CareCam Documentation System that was patented in 2009. The company is now based in Conshohocken, Pa., but has recently opened a customer assistance call center with 10 employees at McAlister Square.
