Sold out event brings engineers from around the world to Greenville
Event held Thursday, October 10th, 2019 in Greenville, SC
Press Release- October 15, 2019– Greenville ONE Center reached capacity with the third annual Automotive Packing Summit (APS), a forum for educational content including 20 speakers and panelists from multiple automotive OEMs, Tier 1 part suppliers, CU-ICAR, and Clemson University’s Packaging Science Department. A consensus among the 270 participants was that “All the right folks were gathered in ONE room,” facilitating an uncommon dialogue for the industry veterans.
An average production automobile has 30,000 parts and tens of thousands of associated packages throughout the vehicle’s life cycle. OEMs report it can take 2-3 years to effectively train a packaging professional, and APS works to streamline this process by bringing knowledge leaders together.
Throughout the dense event, attendees learned about new Tier 1 suppliers in the region and the operational hurdles they face. OEMs, such as Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Honda shared how they overcame challenges through packing technologies and organizational adjustments. Highlights of the event included details on sensitive electronics, corrosion control, and sustainable material testing for interior automotive parts and packaging. OEMs and Tier 1s also shared specific details on new processes, upcoming launches, and improvements to aftermarket and series production packaging.
APS has reached venue capacity two years in a row with this highly focused forum. To augment the in-person event, PackagingSchool.com has created the Automotive Packaging Certificate (APC). This unique online course series gives anyone the opportunity to further their knowledge and expertise regarding this thriving and expansive industry.
